The shared areas
We really are spoilt for choice here! We feel so lucky to have almost half a kilometre of our own private banks along the river Seye. And if that isn’t enough of a natural beautiful water source, the moulin itself directly overlooks a 70m long millrace, which turns from mesmerising jade in winter/spring to deep emerald in summer/autumn. There is also a ruisseau and canal which runs right through the courtyard, and it is because of all of this water that we have to recommend that you don’t bring any under 5’s here please.
Le Moulin Vert shares its 3.5 hectares of land with you, comprising a pool, summer kitchen & barbecue area, general gardens, courtyard, badminton area, petanque on the driveway, and our delightful cheeky free-roaming chickens !
The pool area is paved, and a covered area provides shade, comfy lounge seating, and plenty of deckchairs. The pool itself is 5m by 10m and is filtered using the minimum levels of chlorine. Feel free to bring your breakfast over here, lunch or an afternoon cup of tea! Search for olives on the two trees. Sunbathe beside the buddleia and watch the butterflies. On a warm summer’s night take a plunge after dark while the pool light casts a turquoise glow over the evening.
The Seye is stunningly beautiful as it cascades down the ‘steps’ created to assist the trout swimming up-stream. Spend a lazy afternoon here in the shade reading a book. Or come in the spring and pick a sunny spot while you fish for trout.
The millpond can change its appearance considerably throughout the year, from pale jade to deep emerald to brown like the Amazon after a storm! And whether the trees around it are allowing shafts of horizontal sunshine through, creating welcome shade in the heat of the summer, or casting golden reflections in autumn. Pink and white water-lilies are a new addition which the baby fish love to shelter beneath.
The gardens are always green, any time of the year, because of all the water here. Bring your macro lens and photograph the blossom on the Indian Bean Tree, the Hibiscus, Wisteria, Passion Flower, roses, water-lillies, etc. And of course the many species of butterflies, bees and numerous other insects they attract.
Our hens are ex-battery laying hens and in contrast to their former lives are very affectionate additions to the clan! They will happily eat certain left-over vegetable scraps or cheese rind. In reward they lay the best eggs you will ever probably taste - silky-smooth deep golden yolks. We are happy to share these with you.
Our vegetable garden / potager is out of bounds for guests please, but again we will happily donate our fresh organic produce with you, depending what is in season.
We constantly strive to continue creating differing, relaxing, magical spaces all around Le Moulin Vert, and we want you to experience them all too…..
